Victorian State Election 2026

Poll the seats that decide Victoria.

State-wide polls show the mood. They cannot show where support sits across Victoria's 88 electorates. TKW Research delivers seat-level and multi-seat telephone data collection.

What we can establish in 20 minutes

Seats and geography

Which electorates, regions or voter groups the study needs to cover.

Sample approach

An indicative sample size and practical targeting approach.

Method recommendation

CATI, mixed mode, or CATI alongside an existing online or IVR study.

Fieldwork reality

What is realistically achievable within the required timetable.

Trusted by major polling companies, campaign teams and research organisations.

The limit of state-wide numbers

Victoria is not one electorate.

A state-wide primary vote can be spread evenly, concentrated in safe seats or clustered in a small number of marginal electorates. Those patterns can lead to very different seat outcomes.
To understand what is happening where the contest is decided, you need data at electorate level.
01

See where support is concentrated

Separate broad political movement from changes occurring in specific electorates.
02

Identify local movement and issue salience

Understand which voter groups, candidates and issues are shaping the contest within a seat.
03

Compare priority seats consistently

Use a common questionnaire, quota structure and fieldwork period across the electorates that matter.
04

Give decisions stronger local evidence

Support campaign, research and editorial decisions with data collected at the level being discussed.
Regional and seat-level sampling

Regional seats need more than a state-wide sample cut down after the fact.

Once a study narrows to a regional electorate, the available online sample becomes thinner and less evenly distributed. Telephone interviewing gives you an active way to reach the towns, postcodes and demographic groups the study needs.
Build for the electorate
Define the geography before fieldwork rather than trying to recover it afterwards.

Reach dispersed populations
Telephone interviewing can supplement cells that are difficult to fill efficiently online.

Control the sample during fieldwork
Manage geography and demographic quotas while interviewing is underway.

What is at stake

State-wide movement only matters if it changes seats.

Seat-level polling identifies the contests where local movement could change the result.
Built to uncover the decision

Poll one seat, a priority group or the wider battlefield.

TKW Research can field a focused benchmark or run multiple electorates concurrently. The design starts with the decision the research needs to support, not a pre-set product.

ONE ELECTORATE

Benchmark or investigate a specific seat.

PRIORITY SEATS

Poll a selected group of marginals, targets or electorates requiring closer attention.

TRACKING

Return to selected electorates during the campaign to measure change.

WIDER PROGRAMME

Run fieldwork across multiple seats concurrently.
Methodology options

Use the method that fits the brief.

TKW Research recommends the collection method that fits the geography, sample, questionnaire and timetable rather than forcing every project into one methodology.

CATI

Experienced interviewers where judgement matters

CATI is suited to complex, sensitive or longer studies. Respondents can ask for clarification, and trained interviewers can handle open-ended answers and unexpected questions in real time.
CATI ALONGSIDE YOUR ONLINE OR IVR SURVEY

Add telephone reach to your existing methodology

Add TKW Research CATI to reach specific electorates, towns, suburbs or quota cells that your existing mode cannot fill cleanly. TKW Research supplies the CATI data collection, not the online or IVR component.
CATI alongside your existing collection

Use CATI to fill the gaps your existing mode leaves behind.

Keep your existing online or IVR study. TKW Research can add targeted telephone interviewing to reach the seats, regions or quota groups that remain difficult to fill.

Fieldwork capability

Seat-level polling needs capacity and control.

Delivering seat-level fieldwork means having the interviewing capacity to run it and the controls to keep it defensible. TKW Research is ISO 20252:2019 certified and runs fieldwork under documented research, interviewing and quality-control procedures.

Live monitoring

Quality oversight while interviewing is underway, with live monitoring of CATI interviews as part of the quality process.

Controlled quotas

Manage geographic and demographic targets during fieldwork within the Voxco CATI environment.

Documented handback

Clear records of method, outcomes and delivery, with clean data supplied in SPSS or CSV format.
Short, clearly scoped studies can move quickly and multiple seats can run at the same time. We confirm feasibility, timing and cost after reviewing the brief.
Timing and feasibility depend on sample availability, questionnaire length, quota complexity, geography and field conditions.
Victorian electorate polling in practice

A representative n=600 telephone poll within a single Victorian state electorate.

A client needed a reliable electorate-level view of political sentiment within a single Victorian state electorate. Online-only collection was not considered sufficient to achieve the required representative sample, so TKW Research delivered a targeted telephone polling programme among registered voters within the seat.

Screened to confirm electorate residency

Built around the electorate, not a state-wide sample.

Respondents were screened using local postcodes to confirm residency within the electorate. Interlocking age and gender quotas were applied against the electorate population profile, with final results weighted across key demographic variables including age, gender and education.

A detailed local view of the political landscape.

The research gave the client a highly localised picture of electorate sentiment, combining voting intention with prompted and unprompted community concerns. It provided clear insight into voter priorities, political awareness and perceptions of incumbent performance, helping the client assess the electorate using data built specifically for that seat.

Give us what you know. It does not need to be a finished questionnaire or research brief.
1
We will clarify the electorates or geography involved and the decision the research needs to support.
2
We will review the available sample and whether CATI on its own or CATI supplementing your existing online or IVR study makes the most sense.
3
We will cover the indicative sample size, questionnaire length, deadline, data outputs and documentation required.
TKW Research will review your outline and come back to you about feasibility and next steps.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, subject to the available sample, target population, questionnaire, quotas and fieldwork conditions. We can also scope groups of priority seats or larger multi-seat programmes.

The approach depends on the project and authorised sample source. Fieldwork may be structured using electorate boundaries, suburbs, postcodes, client-supplied records or an approved sample source. We confirm the practical approach during scoping.

Yes. Your team or existing provider continues to run the online or IVR component. TKW Research supplies CATI data collection to add telephone reach into selected electorates, locations or quota groups.

Short, clearly specified projects can move quickly, and multiple seats can be fielded concurrently. The actual timeline depends on sample availability, questionnaire length, quotas, geography and method.

Depending on the agreed scope, TKW Research can provide cleaned SPSS or CSV data, topline results, cross-tabulations, call outcomes, quota reporting, fieldwork notes and method documentation.

Data collection is TKW Research's core role. We can also assist with questionnaire design, methodology, cross-tabulations, topline reporting and documentation where required.
